A BREIF HISTORY OF SLIME: THE DYSLUCSIC STORY

I suppose I should start with how this pack of cunts got together….

In 98 the pike was splitting up cuz paddy mcardle (vocalist) was pissing off to austrailia for god knows how long,

Anyways we had a last gig to see paddy off and one of the local bands ‘guilty parties’ weren’t doin much

So after the gig one of the lads (spud) asked if I wasn’t doing anything musicwise. I said no just a couple of cover gigs.Did I want to jam with him sez he,

Him and a few others were getting something together original and heavy. So I said yeah ok. At the time I was doin a couple of

Pub gigs with soundwave and wasn’t very interested in that. So we had a couple of jams and at the time the line-up was:

Spud (vocals) Shane (guitar) Rayo (bass) and meself  Johnny (drums)

We then had to let rayo go and recruited the ex-guilty parties bassist ollie smith

At the time we ended up calling ourselves SARCOPTIC MANGE MITES. We done 2 or 3 support slots with a couple of bands

from town. We then changed the name of the band to FUCKPIG, I think we only done 2 gigs with that name.

Anywho, at the time I was still filling in playing the pub band and had to collect my my drum equipment one night

For a fuckpig gig and at the time my girlfriend was up the spout and lived beside the singer of the pub band at the time (where my drum shit was at the time)

when I seen her being carted of to hospital to have the sprog. So a good mate of mine had to fill in for me that night on kit (the poor cunt didn’t know

any of the songs and never jammed with the lads before) but I haerd he done well.

I had to stop jamming with the (then) fuckpig cuz I needed the dosh from the pub band gigs to buy nappys and shit

And was working shifts so I hadn’t got the time for everything to be going on at once.

So everything lay low for a good while. I ended up just doin cover bands for a while.

In the summer of 2001 I started jamming with richie Sheehan and paddy levins doin’ GRANITE.

At the time another local band was starting up called CARRAIG, a good mate of mine eoghan vaughey was heading out to richies for a few spliffs when I was jamming with granite and he got to know al and richie who was looking for a singer for their new stoner rock band and that’s another story.

So we had a good lot of songs rehearsed for a gig with granite and we needed a singer so ants connor said he’d do it.

We done Sabbath covers crowbar covers fear factory etc… real heavy shit, we were tuned to A.

So ants sang the Sabbath stuff good but we needed someone with a more rough and growlier vocal.

I thought of spud, his vocal was more suited I thought. So we got him in and nearly had to drag him to every jam

Cuz he was a lazy cunt (and still is) who was always in the pub. We jammed the stuff and it was cool,

We only lasted one gig though. So when that ended I was out for a couple of scoops one Monday night

When I met peter dunne, him and noel maher were only after finishing collage or some shite like that and wanted to

Get an original band together so I said yeah. We jammed that Friday night in my house and wrote a couple of tunes over the next few weeks.

I then recorded with that group (SCAVENGER) that December we recorded an 8 track self titled self released cd.

The next summer after doin’ a couple of gigs here and there with scav, I was asked to fill in for a gig with a local group called fallen.

(Kenn was the guitarist at the time) In the other room next to us was another practice room where another band were jamming,

the next night when I was in the pub I met ollie smith and he said he was jamming in one of the practice rooms down at the quay and the drummer that was in the other room sounded like me, and lo and behold the cunt was right. T’was me. So we ended up chatting about the fuckpig days

and decided to have jam for old times sake. We had a session the following week and the songs sounded great with the new

evil heavy touch to it. We got a few more sessions in and done a gig but we needed a name, I had the name DYSLUCSIC in my head

a year or so and the heavy and humourous direction seemed to suit so we used the name. And still to this day the amount of cunts who still spell it wrong is

unbelievable. So we done a couple of gigs here and there mainly local for laziness reasons. We then decided to record a demo ep

consisting of 7 tracks. We then entitled the cd ‘AN DOG ON AN WALL’ it came out great in my opinion and we made

a bunch of home made cd copies and covers. We never got round releasing it properly due to not having the money to get it properly done.

We recorded the cd at fatdog studios duleek co.meath with boris o shea at the helm. (sept 2002)

We started writing new material nearly straight away with demented ideas flying out.

Sitting out in the beer garden one night getting stoned (as usual) and alan bell was talking about his t-shirt getting covered in curry that

winter when he never took his jumper off, he said it was weird. We just called him a dirty cunt then we had the idea

that he was attacked by some sort of Chinese curry ghost and we then proceeded to write lyrics on an empty

hoola hoops box. after a couple months with a few gigs here and there and more songs written we decided to record again instead of getting

the an dog on an wall cd done properly. We entitled this monstrosity: DYSLUCSIC2 (idin idout) the turd place.

The name taking the piss out of playstation2 (the third place) (duh!!!) (recorded oct 2003)

This cd was again recorded in fatdog studios. During recording I got the flu and had to put the recording off a day or two

From there on things didn’t seem to go according to plan. We had to let ollie go due to our own reasons and shane had to do the bass tracks for the cd.

After a couple of days and a head wrecking mix for boris, the cd was done. We tuned down to A for the sound to be heavier but it didn’t do the recording any favours. It didn’t have the balls of the first recording. Its still good though! Then we added about 13mins of hidden track shit onto it for a bit of fun.

I had a couple of fucked up songs on the keyboard I wanted to throw down. I also recorded a track with my young lad (cormac) who put

Some vocal tracks to the rats in the cornflakes song I done.

So the next step was to get a new bassist. The first person we all had in mind was kenn bell. He’s the guitarist that I played with in cisko pike.

after a few jams we done 2 gigs and kenn done great. Were currently writing new material and I’ve recently made a

music video for ‘Attack of the Chinese curry ghost’. The latest song were working on is called ‘Valley of the halflings’ about midgets, ha!
